May Word of The Month: More Valuable than a Sparrow

Dear Lovely Reader,

I hope you are well during these challenging times we are living in.

We’re midway through May and I want to share this message with you.

This weekend I saw a flock of teeny tiny birds, to be exact house sparrows pecking at grass in my garden. Suddenly a large raven swooped by to pick on its prey, all of them managed to escape in time uninjured apart from one. The left behind bird sat at one corner of the garden unmoved by mine or my family’s presence – that’s when we knew it was badly hurt. After the second time of approaching and provoking the bird to move, it flew up a few centimetres and went straight back down with a bent leg.

Now, I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest animal lover, but that pulled on my heart strings a bit. This would probably seem strange to you but, I started to pray that God would heal the bird’s leg and keep it from all harm! It was obvious that if the sparrow did not fly as soon as possible, the raven could’ve come back, it may have been attacked by a cat or fox or would’ve died alone. Honestly, I did not want to witness any of those eventualities.

A bit of time passed and upon the third time of approaching the bird, it finally flew upwards and soared into the sky. I was so happy to see that 🙂 and I truly believe God healed that bird’s leg. It was a miracle on a Saturday afternoon! No miracle is mini despite the circumstance!

Seeing that bird fly away reminded me of this verse:

“Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26

What I’ve picked out from that incident may probably seem a bit funny, weird or extra but that’s the beautiful reality – God deeply cares for every living creature.

That sparrow was small and vulnerable however I saw the value in that small creature. In the same way some of you may be feeling alone, small or vulnerable in this quarantine period.

My message to you today is:  God sees value in you. You are valuable to God. Yes YOU!

You are VALUABLE, more valuable than that sparrow.

Just as I was watching over that bird, God is watching over you. Just as I was praying over that bird, Jesus is “at the right hand of God and is also praying for us” – Romans 8:34.

God knows what you’re going through and you are never alone. Do not worry. Lift your eyes to the skies and know in your heart that your help comes from God.

Tell him your plea because he hears every word and will answer you.

Peace and every good blessing be yours in Jesus Name. Amen
