Dear Lovely Reader,
Happy New Year! I hope this year brings you peace and joy everlasting.
I’m thankful that you and I have made it to another year! After a difficult 2020, a lot of us are looking forward to what this year will bring! With forecasts in the media flying about and uncertainty in the economic sphere, we really need a strong foundation to stand on and start 2021.
A verse I love to revisit at this time of year:
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time” – Habakkuk 2:2-3
This is a time each year where we make goals and vision boards – all which are great but with the unpredictability of 2020, how can we be sure that we will achieve our goals this year?
I was thinking initially, what is the point of setting goals this year? I’ll just go with the flow. However, the verse above points out that the purpose of a vision will make us run. It gives us a reason to live each day.
With the disruptiveness of last year, a lot of us may be feeling weary and nervous to set goals or think big. This is why at the root of goal setting we need to start at a firm base. Coming into this year, it is so important that we do not form our goals on the successes or afflictions of last year. Yes, some of us may have had some great wins, but we cannot live off last year’s accomplishments (at least not forever!), likewise we cannot we live of the pain and toil some of us faced. We must forget it and move on. There are always new adventures ahead!
A new year = new beginnings = new mind-set for new adventures!
A new mind-set is essential for this year and can only be achieved through the word of God. Since thoughts and feelings affect our actions and how we live, we need to constantly fill our minds with good words.
The only constant good words and news in this world is found in the Bible. The living word of God. It never goes out of date, it always gives a solution to any problem and is always saying something to us.
Centuries have come and gone but the word of God endures forever.
The best way to start the year and your goals is with these words of Jesus Christ:
“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them…He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock” – Luke 6:47-48
At this exciting yet anxious time for many of us, we are in need of hope, love, peace, joy, mercy, grace, forgiveness…I could go on and on. I just want to end this message on this note that, whatever you are in need of right now, take a read in the Bible with an open heart and mind as:
Jesus Christ and His word is the solid rock and foundation on which you can stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
