Expectation

Dear Lovely Reader,

Happy New Year – too late to say this?!

I hope your 2022 has started off brightly! Have you been setting goals, started a diet or began a reset routine to ensure you wake up at 6am every morning 😆?

If you have, kudos to you and if you haven’t that’s okay. There always seems to be a rush in January to plan out an amazing year.

Have you ever thought deeply about your expectations? Yes? No? Let’s do it together.

Expectation /ɛkspɛkˈteɪʃ(ə)n/ is generally defined as a strong belief that something will happen.

After more research into the history of the word, I saw that expectation is not just a belief but also an act of “awaiting with confident anticipation”. Meaning to hope and trust for that outcome.

This scripture points to the source of expectations.

“My soul [mind, will, emotions], wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him” – Psalm 62:5

Expectations are set on the foundation of hope. We hope that we will be able and alive to achieve goals this year. Life is nothing without hope and who is the source of life? God.

This is also why the verse mentions to “wait silently for God alone” (a sure and calm posture of your heart, mind and actions), since He is the author and perfecter of our lives.

Our expectations for this year all depend on the hope for life.

How do we truly know that they will happen? We can never know especially with life’s twists and turns. We aren’t in control and sometimes this can be a scary thought.

This is a verse I think is very useful to remember:

In the day of prosperity be joyful,
But in the day of adversity consider:
Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other,
So that man/woman can find out nothing that will come after him/her

-Ecclesiastes 7:14

To sum everything up, this is not a message to bring doom and gloom but rather an awakening to the reality of the expectations we set. We must continue to hope until our desires are fulfilled whilst taking in the pleasure and moments of life.

I hope this will be a prosperous year for us all.

Even if there will be days of hardship or if it’s taking long for your blessing to arrive – remember God is in control.

As you hope for your expectations this year, don’t forget what you can expect from God.

Not only will He grant your expectations according to His will and riches in glory but exceed them by blessing you with more of His presence, faithfulness, love, mercy and grace. Additionally, He will continue to perfectly fashion you through pruning/testing so you will be that spectacular human you’re predestined to be 😉

Expect more than your expectations!

Take care lovely readers,

Peace and every good blessing be yours in Jesus Name. Amen

Josie x
