Dear Lovely Reader,
Do you know the parable of the 10 virgins in the book of Matthew 25:1-13?
Let’s go through a brief summary together 😊:
- There were ten virgins who set out to meet the bridegroom at the wedding
- 5 were wise, 5 were foolish
- They all had lamps but the 5 foolish took no oil whilst the 5 wise took oil in their vessels
- The bridegroom was delayed and all the virgins slept
Then the time came and “At midnight a cry was heard: Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!” – Matthew 25:6
They all knew to trim their lamps so the oil from the storage reservoir could ignite a bright and clean flame.
The 5 wise who had oil went to meet the bridegroom and were welcomed to the banquet. The 5 foolish were unprepared and had to buy oil, by the time they were ready the door was shut and the Lord said unto them ‘I do not know you’.
The main message from this parable is to be ready for the Lord’s return.
It’s so easy to get fixated on the things of the world which are so temporary and fleeting. I guess it’s easier to get lost in meeting worldly goals and running after earthly pleasures because we live on earth and it’s a blessing!
The eternal is hard for our minds to understand and can seem far away when we get caught up in our daily lives.
But just as the bridegroom was ‘delayed’ in the eyes of the virgins, it can seem the same way for us on earth.
God is never delayed; He is right on time and it’s up to us to:
Behold Him: hold in view His principles and word in our hearts and minds to live right
Be ready: primed and prepared with oil we have now and get extra oil
I think the oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Are we Holy Spirit filled and led? Do we flow in the fruit of the spirit to shine clear and bright for Jesus?
Our light should shine so bright that our family and friends can see Jesus in us and the Truth. This will draw them into the Kingdom of Heaven as they give their lives to God.
What do you think?
Let’s remember each day to:
Stay prayed up. Stay expectant. Keep our oil filled. Get extra oil. Shine bright.
Behold Him & Be Ready
